Wearing a Seatbelt is Not Just for Front Seat Passengers

Wearing your seatbelt is something you should do no matter where you sit in a vehicle, but many don't, especially when riding in the backseat. For some, they think riding in the back is safer so they choose to forego their seatbelt. Well a new study done by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety explains the dangers of failing to buckle while being a backseat passenger.

Research done by the University of Virginia shows that the chances of a driver being fatally injured in a crash where the person behind them wasn't wearing their seatbelt more than doubles. It could also a turn what could have been a small injury into a serious one.

Of the people surveyed by the IIHS, 91% reported that they always wear their seatbelt when sitting in the front while only 71% of backseat drivers said they always wear theirs. The percentage dropped more for those who use cabs or Uber. So please, do your driver a favor and always buckle up.
