Controlling Pet Hair in Your Car

Preventing a mess is much easier than cleaning one up, and this is especially true when it comes to pet hair. Pets might find car rides delightful, but their fur will still be there long after the ride is over. Lay out a protective sheet, towel or blanket to keep your upholstery hair-free and give your pet a thorough brushing right before you leave.

If you're already contending with fur-covered seats, there are a few innovative ways to remove it. Taking a fine mist spray bottle, mix a few teaspoonfuls of fabric softener in some water and spray it lightly on your seats. The fabric softener will attract the pet hair and also help to loosen it. Use a rubber glove or paper towel to rub directly on the upholstery to draw out the fur.

You can also use the same lint roller you use on your clothes or create a fur magnet by rubbing a blown-up balloon on the fabric to attract the hairs.
